Abstract (EN)
In Middle Ages, the Church as an institution; controlled social, intellectual and political life in a powerful way which was a period known as the dark age. While the church was organizing social life, it was able to survive as the only institutional power in Europe. But with the beginning of the central monarchies becoming stronger, the Late Medieval and Early Modern Ages was the period when the most fervent outbursts occured against the argument that Church had absolute and divine power over the Kings. The attempts of emperors, kings and princes to make their reigns independent of the authority of the Church and the Pope, and the power struggle between them, were also the source of the social divisions of the period. Intellectual liberation and Church criticism spread with the renaissance and the reformation came out as a demand for dogmas and a reorganization against the Church as an institution. As a result of the opposing movements, the central powers became stronger and nationalized Churches became a part of this process. As an example of the national church, the British Anglican Church and Anglicanism emerged as a source of national unity, which resulted in both the break with the Roman authority and the sovereignty of political authority.
