Abstract (EN)

A Comparison of the Physical Fitness Levels of the Students In Erzurum Sports High School and Atatürk Vocational and Technical High School Based on the EUROFIT Test Aim: This study was intended to determine the physical fitness of Erzurum Sports High School and Atatürk Vocational and Technical High School students using the EUROFIT test battery and reveal the physical differences between them. Material and Method: The study was conducted with 240 male students in the 9., 10. and 11. grades in both high schools. The researcher determined the age, height, weight, and skinfold thickness values of students and applied the EUROFIT test and t-test (Independent samples t-test) was used in the analysis of the obtained data and compared the obtained data at the (p<0.05) significance level. Results: There were no significant differences among the 9., 10. and 11. grade groups' age, height, and weight values. When the values of skinfold thickness were compared, it was found that there was a significant difference biceps, triceps, suprailiac and thigh skinfold thickness of in 9. grade students while there was no significant difference in their scapula skinfold thickness measurement. In the 10. and 11. grade students, there was no significant difference in their biceps, triceps, scapula, suprailiac and thigh skinfold thickness values. On Plate-tapping Test of the EUROFIT test, there was a significant difference in the 11. grade students, while there was no significant difference in the 9. and 10. grade students. There was a significant difference in the Handgrip Test of 10. grade students however, there was no significant difference between the 9. and 11. grade students. In the Flamingo Balance, Sit-and-Reach, Standing Broad Jump, Sit-Ups, Bent Arm Hang and 10 x 5 meter Shuttle Run tests, there were significant differences in the 9., 10. and 11. grades. Conclusion: It was to be expected that EUROFIT test battery results of the sports high school students would be better than vocational high school students. However, it is remarkable that the values in the two groups were close to each other despite the significant differences. An important result of the study is that it is necessary to review the student admissions and the curriculum of sports high schools in Turkey.
