Özet (EN)

The first quarter of the II. millenium B.C. marks an era in which the most intensive commercial relationships between Anatolia and Assyria took place. This period, called as Colony Age, the Assyrian merchants carried out their commercial activities and lived in those centers called as karum and wabartum they built close to the Anatolian towns. There are important information on the cuneiform documents written in the Old Assyrian language which are found from Kültepe, Bogazköy, Alisar and Kalehöyük in Anatolia; Assyria and Mari in Northern Mesopotamia; T. Leilan and Nuzi in Syria, which to shed light on he Anatolian and partly Assyrian political, social, religious and geographical structure. Our dissertation on ?The Geographical Names In the Old Assyrian Texts? consists of three parts. In the first part we tried to determine the names of the places referred in the cuneiform documents and to determine their Hittite and Classical Periods or, where available, current counterparts. Besides, we have addressed economical, political and religious structures of the towns in comparison with the information provided from the said scripts. In the second part, we focused on the river names mentioned in the cuneiform documents. Only two of these rivers, which are very few as compared to the town names belong to Anatolia. These rivers are Purattu (Fırat) and Idiglat (Dicle). In addition, only Purattu (Fırat) and Humatum river names are mentioned on the old Assyrian documents having been seized in Anatolia. It has been verified that the other river names in the documents belonged to the Northern Mesopotamia and Northern Syria. The third and final part takes on the mountain names. Only two mountain names have been determined. One of them is A?ka?ipa Mountain that is also mentioned in the Hittite documents and identitied as Erciyes Mountain whereas the other is Humanum Mountain identified as Amanos Mountains. Key Words 1. Colony Age 2. Anatolia 3. Kultepe 4. Kanish 5. Geographical Names
