The study of Prof. Dr. Ali Nihat Tarlan?s literary works from the point of view of classical Turkish literature (analyze ? text)

Prof. Dr. Ali Nihat Tarlan is a literature authority and the teacher of teachers who made great contributions to text publishing, text interpretation and literary history in the field of Classical Turkish Literature and who received doctorate degree and many of whose students became scientists.Prof. Tarlan thinks that in order to write literary history, firstly it is necessary to understand the psychological profile of the poets in the texts or analyze the psychological states of the artists and then to put them in literary history. According to him, literary history is the history of literature as he mentioned frequently. In other words, ?Literary history is the history of literary works above all.?Prof. Tarlan believes that ?The real place of an artist in literary history is directly dependent upon eliciting his place in arts and this depends on having the right text in hand.? For this reason, he dedicated most of his efforts on providing the pure and real texts of Turkish literary works. In this context, he prepared critical editions of some of the poets of the Classical Turkish Literature such as Hayalî Bey, Fuzûlî, Necâtî Bey, Ahmed Paşa and Zatî and translated works of these artists into Turkish which had been written in Persian.Prof. Tarlan defines text interpretation as ?a discipline which must have its own unique formulas and issues to be analyzed. As a prominent professor of literature, who wrote tens of books and hundreds of articles, and the owner of thoughts like: ?Understanding a literary work is different from feeling it. Texts try to comprehend the interpretation.?, ?A literary work should not be analyzed as a means but as an end.? Prof. Tarlan is a scientist whose life, works and ideas should be analyzed and studied deeply.Key Words: Text interpretation, text publishing, literary history
