Abstract (EN)

Speakers of a language convey their feelings, ideas and manners insyntax by using specific markers. These grammatical markers that are usedby speaker to convey meanings such as wish, obligation, prediction, doubt,inference, probability and so on are called modality. Possibility modality isone of the subcategories of modality that can modify the meaning of a modaland make the meaning of a sentence to gain clarity. Possibility modalityincludes the states of doubt, prediction, assumption, possibility anduncertainty.Possibility modalities are examined in three subcategories in OldUyghur Turkish that is one of the historical dialects of Turkish and theyprovide examples in types of speculative, subjective and objective possibilitymodalities. Old Uyghur Turkish has a substantial number of possibilitymodalities. It is possible to say that possibility meaning is rather suppliedfrom the context in Old Uyghur Turkish that has possibility modality markerssuch as ?sA, -gAy, birök?erser, bolgu kergek.
