Evaluation of biochemical parameters in patients detected with hepatosteatosis in Eskisehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Family medicine polyclinic

This study was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic performance of some anthropometric and biochemical parameters as a preliminary indicator of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and to provide practicality in the selection of patients who are suspected of having nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and need further examination and treatment. The population of the study consisted of male and female patients aged 18 years and older who applied to Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine Family Medicine Polyclinic for check-up between 01.01.2022-31.03.2023, who were detected to have hepatosteatosis by abdominal ultrasonography and whose simultaneous biochemical data could be accessed, who had no history of alcohol use (>20 g/day in women, >30 g/day in men), and who had no known chronic liver disease. In the specified date range, 100 patient records that met the inclusion criteria were identified. As a result of our study, a positive correlation was found between the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and male gender, increasing age and body mass index. It was observed that the higher the degree of hepatosteatosis, the higher the HOMA-IR value indicating insulin resistance. Although non-invasive markers that can be used for the diagnosis of the disease may have weaknesses, we believe that non alcoholic fatty liver disease can be detected earlier and mortality and morbidity can be reduced with appropriate approaches by performing further tests for hepatosteatosis in patients with high body mass index, insulin resistance and advanced age.
