The evaluation of English preparatory program of Eskişehir Osmangazi University Foreign Languages Department and a model proposal

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the English Preparatory Program of Eskişehir Osmangazi Üniversitesi Foreign Languages Department based on the elements of curriculum, find out if the Program is successful in realising the desired qualities and suggest a new Preparatory Program model based on the results obtained.In this study, which was conducted in 2006-2007 academic year, survey model was used. The sample of this study was formed from the students currently studying at the Program, those who finished the Program and studying at the faculties and instructors teaching at the Program.Three instruments, namely, two questinonnaires and an interwiev were developed for the purpose of data collection. These instruments were implemented to the students studying at the program, those who finished the Program and studying at the faculties and the instructors teaching at the Program then.The results of the study show that almost all elements of the Program are problematic, the Program provides the desired qualities to some extent but there are some weaknesses on Technical English and there is a necessity for innovations on teaching methodologies and preparatory education models.Based on the results of the study, a suggested English Preparatory Model has been put forward to overcome the weaknesses mentioned and increase the qualities of the program.Keywords: Program Evaluation, English Preparatory Program Model
