Interspausal violence: Determinants and effects on mental health

In this thesis, intimate partner violence betmeen married couples, which is a phenomenon that tolerated in our society, is accepted to be rooted from multiple causuality. Intimate Partner Violence Questionnarie is developed by counseler and the author to examine the relationship between intimate partner violence between married couples and variables. Brief Symptom Inventory and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Inventory is also take place in the questionnarie. Intimate partner violence between married couple is categorized to three dimentions as emotional, sexual and physical violence and two dimentions as being exposed to violence and practicing violence. According to researches on incidence, while women are said to expose emotional, sexual and physical violence more than men in intimate relationships, men are said to practice violence more than women. To conclude, education level, percieved income as sociodemographic variables; alcohol and drug usage frequency as conduct properties; violence between parents in original family are found to be characteristic. Besides, self-esteem and psychological condition are found to be related to practicing and exposing to violence between intimate partners. Suicide tendency did not found to be related to violence between intimate partners. KEY WORDS: Self-esteem, intimate partner violence, communication, suicide, psychological condition
