Effect of paired reading method on relieving reading difficulty

In this study, the effect of paired reading method in eliminating reading difficulties of primary school 4th grade students was examined. The research was carried out with two students selected from a primary school in Bartın, in accordance with the purpose of the research. The students selected in the research; It is known that students have reading difficulties, although they do not have any problems in intelligence, auditory and visual areas. The texts to be studied in teaching before, after and during the application were determined by determining the readability level of the students with the Ateşman formula. Care was taken to ensure that the texts were of the same difficulty. Error Analysis Inventory was used to determine the number of reading errors of the students, to measure their reading comprehension levels and to evaluate their reading levels during the instruction. Before the instruction, a reading piece called "Eskiciyle Para Babası" from the primary school 4th grade Turkish textbook approved by the Board of Education and Discipline was taught, and it was determined that the reading level was at the level of 4th grade anxiety. Afterwards, the students were read a text called " Kırk Haramiler " at the 3rd grade level and it was seen that the reading levels of the 3rd grade students were at the level of anxiety. Then, the text called " Gerçek Arkadaş " was read at the 2nd grade level and it was determined that the students were at the 2nd grade level of instruction. Teaching started from the 2nd grade and the teaching took place individually in a quiet environment. Teaching was completed by using the paired reading method with a total of 20 lesson hours with one student. Each session consisted of two 40-minute class hours. The instruction continued for 10 weeks in 2 sessions on different days of the week and 20 sessions were held with one student. The study was completed in 40 sessions with two students. At the end of the teaching process, in order to evaluate the decrease in the reading errors of the students, the level of reading comprehension and the progress in the reading level, the reading text "Bilge Hangi Sporu Yapacak?" at the 2nd grade level, then the reading text "Bayram Armağanları" from the 3rd grade Turkish textbook, which is a higher level. and then the reading passage named "Bir Hastalığın Yenilişi" taken from the 4th grade Turkish textbook was taught. As a result of the evaluations, it was seen that the students' reading errors decreased, their reading comprehension level improved and their reading levels improved.
