The effect of aesthetic listening on skills of 4th grade students

This study was conducted to examine the effect of aesthetic listening education on the listening skills of 4th grade students. The study group of the research consists of a total of 28 students, 14 from the experimental group and 14 from the control group, from the 4th grade students of the Ülkü Primary School in Yenice district of Karabük province in the 2018-2019 academic year. Aesthetic listening training was given to the students in the experimental group and listening training was given to the students in the control group in accordance with the current program. The study lasted 8 weeks. 2 weeks of this period were devoted to pre-test and post-test studies, 1 week was devoted to aesthetic listening theoretical education and 5 weeks were devoted to practice studies. Theoretical training in aesthetic listening was given in 3 hours. Implementation studies were conducted in 2 sessions per week. Each session consisted of 3 lessons. As 6 hours per week, a total of 30 hours of treatment was performed. In the research, quasi-experimental model with pre-test and post-test control group was used. In order to obtain data, 13 pre-test and post-test questions prepared based on expert opinion listening questions were used. For the analysis of the data, Mann-Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used. In the research, significance level was accepted as 0,05. As a result of the research: 1. It was found that there was no significant difference between the listening skills of the experimental and control group students before the aesthetic listening training and the pre-test scores. 2. There was no found significant difference between pre-test scores and post-test scores of listening skills of the control group students 3. It was found that there was a significant difference between the experimental group students' listening skills pre-test scores and post-test scores. 4. There was a significant difference between experimental and control group students' listening skills post-test scores in favor of experimental group students. As a result of the research, it was concluded that aesthetic listening education had a positive effect on the listening skills of 4th grade students. Keywords: Listening skills, Listening process.
