Wastewater reuse in meat and dairy products plants

Amount of water comsumption can vary due to sectors industries. The basic usage areas of water are; process, cooling, steam generating and heating systems, as well as social usages (home, potable, washing, field irrigation, watering etc). Water is a must for hygene of food production systems, a need for process productivity, and quality. Thus, water consumption on process side is highest than cooling, heating systems. Other causes of water consumption are; area cleaning, equipment cleaning and some residential usage. As the water used for/in different systems, the impurities and amount of those impruties can be differentiated. The waste water of those different systems, will be collected in waste water plants, which are designed accordingly and this water will be treated in these plants. It is very important to reuse this treated water, in order to protect environment and to protect precious, decreasing fresh water sources. After determining the aim of water usage, waste water can be prufied with convenient steps, due to standards needed. In this study; wastewater sources of meat and dairy production facility, wastewater and treated wastewater characterization were investigated and the possibility of using treated wastewater for reuse areas was investigated. For this purpose, pollution concentrations of treated wastewater and reusable areas were investigated. In this study; KOİ, TAKM, pH, alkalinity and many pollution parameters of wastewater samples taken from treatment plant at certain times daily were analyzed. The suitability of the treated wastewater was evaluated by considering the possibility of being used at the farm, on-site and at the necessary points of the auxiliary facilities.
