Investigation of the effect of the interactive book reading program on the self-perception of 5-6 year old children

This research was conducted to examine the effect of the book reading program on the self-perception of 5-6 year old children. The study group of the research consists of 26 children aged 5-6 years who are studying in a kindergarten affiliated to the Ministry of National Education and a kindergarten affiliated to a primary school in Geyve district of Sakarya province in 2021-2022 education. A quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study. Interactive Book Reading Program consisting of 10 books was applied to the experimental group for 8 weeks. Children in the control group did not receive any intervention. Demoulin Self-Perception Scale for Children and Personal Information Form, which includes demographic information of children and their families, were used to measure children's self-perception scores as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 20 package program. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used to see the difference between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group and the pretest and posttest scores of the control group, and the test to see if there was a difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of pretest and posttest scores was used. According to the results of the study, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in the self-perception post-test scores of the chidren in the experimental and control groups. In addition, it was determined that the difference in the achievement levels of the children in the experimental group was significant. Acoording to these results, it can be said that the Interactive Book Reading Program has a positive effect on the self- perception of 5-6 year old children.
