The Conceptual scope of phenomena of ethnicity and its assesment with respect to modernity

uı THE CONCEPTUAL SCOPE OF PHENOMENA OF ETHNICITY AND ITS ASSESMENT WITH RESPECT TO MODERNITY The aim of this study is to locate the conceptual scope of the term "ethnicity", and to asses the relationship between ethnicity and modernity. A literature research which consists of the main documents in the related field has been made in order to clarify various conceptual understandings of the term. The theories of "Modernity" have been evaluated with respect to main stream processes such as progress, modernization, and globalization. As a result, it has been observed that the relationships between modernity and ethnicity have a multi dimensional nature. The main outcome of this study is that it weakens the assumption that ethnic identities would disseappear with processes of progress, modernization and globalization.
