Birth of the discipline of ethnomusicology, the process of development and contemporary methodological and approach discussions

In this study, the discipline of ethnomusicology which deals with the social, cultural events and phenomena that can be explained and expressed in an ethnic structure that has taken place in a society has been investigated. Firstly, after the etymology of ethnomusicology, the definition and research method techniques have been mentioned,on the conceptual discussions of the discipline have been briefly based on the history and related disciplines, and the cultural structure of music and the traces left by music, instruments from primitive societies to modern societies have been emphasized. Music, which is one of the most important building blocks of a society has been discussed and how, in which way ethnomusicology emerged and developed has been interpreted within a theoretical framework by using the works of Philosophy, History, Sociology and similar studies.As we examined in this study, as a method the qualitative research methods which is one of the Literature Survey Model has been formed. The studies, models and approaches in the field of ethnomusicology, as well as the researches that require a certain discipline, shape the course of the study. The fact that ethnomusicology is intertwined with many disciplines is one of the most important topics in this study and its effects on this field have been revealed in their new approaches. In addition, although the foundation of the developments in the discipline of ethnomusicology points to ancient times, the process that is evolving and changing today shows that ethnomusicology has a different name and fields of study. Today's methodological approximative discussions of ethnomusicology in the study constitute an important part of this study. In this study, the relationship between music and culture was discussed and the place and position of music within a branch of science was revealed. In addition, the growth in the development of ethnomusicology together with the Berlin phonograph Archive is more extensive than the compilation studies in Turkey and has a more permanent recording feature. The use of the recorder has led to ethnomusicology studies and many works have been recorded in Turkey with the recording method. Apart from these discussions, the semantic problems of ethnomusicology that we have been focusing on throughout the study and the other issues of discussion that it brings with it continue.
