Determination of first aid self-efficacy levels of mothers with 0-6 age group children applying to the pediatric emergency service due to home accidents

Home accidents are accidents that occur inside the house or in parts of the house, such as the garden, garage, barn, balcony. Children in the 0-6 age group are more likely to face home accidents. In this study, it was aimed to determine the self-efficacy levels of mothers with 0-6 age group children who applied to the pediatric emergency service. Research data 100 mothers with children in the 0-6 age group who applied to Hacettepe University İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital between 01.06.2022 and 31.12.2022 in 2022 due to home accidents were included in the study. Data were collected using the First Aid Self-Efficacy Scale in Home Accidents and the Information Form on the Child and Family as data collection forms. The data were evaluated using the Statistical Packages of SocialSciences (SPSS) 2.0 statistical package program on the computer. It is seen that the average of the total score of the mothers in the study group from the "First Aid Self-Efficacy Scale" was 41.85+10.61 and this value corresponds to the range of "I am undecided" (41.85/12=3.48). It was found that mothers were undecided about their first aid self-efficacy and did not have the desired level of first aid self-efficacy. It was determined that 43% of the children in the 0-6 age group had a home accident at least once. It is recommended that parents and other caregivers, especially parents and other caregivers, be given training on prevention of home accidents and especially first aid.
