Abstract (EN)
In this study, a new repelling feature has been added into ordinary interior and exterior paints in order to remove house flies from living areas. At first, tetraethoxysilane ( TEOS ), the preliminary test of which was made and approved, and the house fly repellent chemicals, N, N -diethyl- m - toluamide (DEET ) , permethrin, geraniol, and thyme oil, were mixed homogeneously. Emulsion method was used to add insect repellent chemicals into sol-gel solution prepared. 1% diluted water was added into the CDAB surfactant (cethyldimethylethyl ammonium bromide ) solution which would form the emulsion. The hydrolysis and condensation reactions of TEOS were initiated with the water added. In the last step, 4 M NH3 was added into the ongoing reaction. Therefore, repellent chemicals was trapped into SiO2 , the powder obtained after the drying step. The particle size of the systems in different proportions was measured using Dynamic Light Scattering ( DLS ) device. Systems with a suitable particle were mixed into the exterior paint in different proportions, after which was used in coating. After drying procedure at room conditions for 24 hours, biological insect repellent effect analysis was performed. The repellent efficiency of coatings on different days whose aging had been made with solar box was examined. Surface morphologies of systems with the longest repellent efficiency were monitored with the scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
