Abstract (EN)
Nowadays, there is a variety of products that can fulfill the needs of users both functionally and decoratively in the home textile sector thanks to the innovative perspectives on designs as well as the developing technology. One of the most important factors affecting users' products preferences is the pattern. There are many types of patterns such as floral, camouflage, tribal, shawl, striped, herringbone, and these types of patterns can divided into four main categories as floral-based, geometric, ethnic, and narrative patterns. Patterns can be applied on the products with diffirent techniques such as printing, weaving, knitting and embroidery. For, home textile products printing is the most preferred techniques for patterns. When creating a pattern design, it is necessary to pay attention to factors including the season trends, the harmony of the colors, and the dimensions of the patterns. Another important factor regarding the pattern is the types of pattern repetitions. There are five different repeat types: block repeat, soter repeat, diagonal soter repeat, capping repeat and flip repeat. The aim of the study is to measure and analyze the effect of new pattern formed as a result of five diffirent repeat types applied to unit patterns on the appreciation level of field experts working in different enterprises in the industry as well as academics working in the fashion and textile design departments. For this purpose, one unit pattern was prepared both from floral-based and geometric patterns that are widely used in home textile sector, and five different repeat types were applied for each unit pattern. Duvet covers, which have a wide sales volume among the printed home textile product groups, have been chosen as a product to be used in the study. A total of ten duvet cover mock-ups were prepared for each with new patterns formed after applying diffirent repeat types to the unit patterns. Kansei engineering was used to preparr the scale used in study. 10 Kansei words (adjective pairs) determined in accordance with the opinions of field experts were applied separately for each type of repeat. A 7-point Semantic Differential scale was used in the study. The participants were asked to evaluate the adjective pairs they deem appropriate for the patterns created with each repeat type with a 7-point Semantic Differential scale. There are 115 participants in the study. The data were transferred to the SPSS 22 program and tables were created by calculating distribution percentages, standard deviation values and arithmetic averages using descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the data, the trend directions of the participants on the adjective pairs were determined. As a result, tables showing the trend intensities for adjective pairs were prepared and evaluated. As a result of the evaluations, the new pattern designs created by applying different repeat types to unit patterns were perceived by the participants as regular, simple and sequential in general. The flip repeat type was found to differ from other repeat types in appreciation of the participants. In sum, for the predefined adjective pairs, differences in level of appreciation were observed for both pattern designs. In last part of the study, suggestions for future studies were presented.
