Evaluation of the effectiveness of the legal responsibilities of nurses training module with case examples

The legal responsibilities of nurses are not specified in a single regulation and require knowledge of different regulations to be comprehensively understood, making it a complex subject. To make the compensation, criminal, and administrative responsibilities that medical errors in the healthcare system may bring to nurses more comprehensible and to ensure patient safety, the 'Training Module on the Legal Responsibilities of Nurses with Case Examples' (TMLRNCE) was prepared. The effectiveness of this training and the tendencies and attitudes towards medical errors of the participants were evaluated. The study had a single-group pretest-posttest design and was conducted between April 2025 and May 2025. The sample of the study consisted of 89 nurses working at Yeditepe University Hospital who volunteered and met the participation criteria. Data in the study were collected using the Personal Information Form, Pre-Test Post-Test Evaluation Form of the Training Module on the Legal Responsibilities of Nurses with Case Examples, Medical Error Tendency Scale (METS), and Attitude Scale in Medical Errors (ASME). At the end of the study, the post-measurement value of the TMLRNCE effectiveness was found to be statistically significantly higher than the initial measurement value (p=0.001; p<0.01). A positive relationship was found between the tendency towards medical errors and attitudes in medical errors. It was found statistically significant that the patient monitoring and material safety values were higher in the group working overtime compared to those who did not, and in the group with children compared to those without children (p=0.001; p<0.05). It was found statistically significant that the attitude scale value in medical errors was lower in the group with children compared to those without (p=0.001; p<0.05). It was determined that those who had made medical errors before showed a statistically significant difference in the medical error tendency scale value compared to those who had not (p=0.012; p<0.05). It was found statistically significant that the medical error tendency scale value of the group that did not make errors was higher compared to those who were not sure (p=0.001; p<0.05). A very high level of significant positive relationship was found between ASME and its sub-sections; medication and transfusion practices, hospital infections, patient monitoring and material safety, falls, communication, and the medical error tendency scale (r=0.873, p<0.01)." It was determined that there was a very high level of positive and statistically significant relationship between medical error perception (r=0.333, p<0.01), approach (r=0.745, p<0.01) and error reasons (r=0.889, p<0.01) and ASME.
