Abstract (EN)

Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. A major risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease is dyslipidemia, which may be primary or associated with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and obesity. This study was conducted to determine the biochemical changes in the level of blood lipids and lipoproteins in diabetic patients and to compare them with normal patients. A total of 125 serum samples were collected, 75 serum samples from type 2 diabetes patients and 50 serum samples from the control group. With regard to socio-demographic characteristics, the results showed that the highest percentage of patients with diabetes was for the age group 41-50 years (37.3%), with regard to residence, the highest percentage of patients was from rural (62.7%), while the level of education was the highest percentage of patients with secondary education (42.7%), and the percentage of non-smokers was the highest at 60%. With regard to hematological variables, the study showed a significant decrease in the RBC, PCV, and hemoglobin concentration in diabetic patients compared to the control group, while the WBC showed a significant increase in diabetic patients compared to the control group (p≤0.05).
