İstanbul'da bir üniversite hastanesinin gastroenteroloji bölümüne başvuran karaciğer sirozlu hastalarda malnütrisyon ve sarkopeni ilişkisinin değerlendirilmesi

Malnutrition and sarcopenia are commonly encountered complications in liver cirrhosis. This study aimed to examine the relationship between cirrhosis-malnutrition-sarcopenia in 75 adult patients, followed up with the diagnosis of cirrhosis in the Gastroenterology outpatient clinic of Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty. The FRAIL frailty index and the SARC-F sarcopenia index were used in this context. Liver function tests (LFTs) were retrospectively included in the study evaluation process. Based on the specified parameters, a significant relationship was found between muscle strength and body mass index (BMI) (p<0.05). In the last 3 months, a significant decrease in appetite and a significant relationship in muscle strength were observed in more than half of the patients in the nutritional status evaluation. At the same time, our study supports the positive correlation between decreased food consumption in liver cirrhosis and malnutrition and sarcopenia. Especially the relationship between protein intake and sarcopenia is an important parameter revealed in this study. More studies are needed on the effects of dietary habits on liver cirrhosis.
