The evaluation of school administrators' perceptions on school safety: Kastamonu case study

This study emphasizes the concept of school security, safe school, school security teories, education policy on security, factors and variables affecting school security, roles in school security and safe school practices. The aim of the research in which a descriptive model of survey was used is to reveal whether there is a meaningful relationship between school administrators' views on school security and various variables. To collect data, the Personal Demographic Information Form and School Security Scale, developed by Kıral and Yıldız (2016) have been applied to two hundred and fourteen school administrators working at the primary, secondary and high schools in central region of Kastamonu, Kastamonu's towns and villages. The data collection tool was sent to the school administrators and collected in an electronic environment by the researcher. The analysis of quantitative data of the research was carried out by SPSS 21 Windows Statistics Package. During the data analysis, in addition to the descriptive statistics, t-test was applied. In case of the homogeneity of variances, an analysis of variance was performed and Tukey HSD test was applied. The research findings show that there is a significant difference between the subdimensions of school security and the variables including inservice training of school administrators, existence of gyms, term of office, term of office at the school, age, seniority in occupation, type of school, the number of male students, the total number of students, the number of substitute teachers, the number of assistant staff, the number of classrooms, the number of floors and the condition of school gardens.
