The effect of nursing care based on the roy adaptation model of home caregivers on caregivers burden of care

This study was conducted as a cross-sectional and quasi-experimental in order to determine the effect of nursing care based on the Roy Adaptation Model of home caregivers on the care burden of caregivers. The research was conducted with volunteer elderly and caregiver individuals who received service from Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Menteşe Home Care Unit between August 2020 and August 2021. The sample of the study consisted of 20 intervention, 20 control group elderly individuals and 40 caregivers. Age, gender and perception status of both groups were equalized. The data were collected with a questionnaire containing socio-demographic characteristics, the Standardized Mini-Mental Test, the Scale for the Assessment of Adjustment Difficulties in the Elderly, the Roy Adaptation Model Diagnosis and Nursing Care Plan Form, and the Caregiver Burden Inventory. Statistical analysis of the study was evaluated with Statistical Package For The Social Sciences version 24.0. Significance was accepted as p < 0.05. Our non-normally distributed variables were evaluated using the Mann Whitney U Test, Wilcoxan Signed Rank Test and Chi-square test. There was no statistically significant difference between the individual characteristics of the elderly and caregivers in the control and intervention groups (p>0.05). It was determined that there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between the scores of the elderly individuals in the intervention group before and after the application of the Scale for the Assessment of Adjustment Difficulties in the Elderly and the Standardized Mini-Mental Test scores (p<0.05), while there was no difference (p>0.05) in the control group. There was a significant difference between the Caregiver Burden Inventory scores of the intervention group caregivers before and after the application (p<0.05); It was found that there was no difference in the control group (p>0.05). It has been determined that RAM is effective in adapting the elderly individuals cared for at home to cognitive changes in the elderly and can be used to reduce the caregiver burden of caregivers. It was thought that testing the model in larger sample groups would be an important indicator to increase efficiency. Keywords: Elderly, caregiver, RAM, nurse, nursing care.
