Psycho-social status of disabled people and their families who benefit from home care fee (Sakarya sample)

Home Care Services, which has been implemented since 2006 by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services in the field of disabled services, have contributed to improving the quality of life of disabled person as well as changing the point of view of disabled people in the society. The home care fee paid for the care of gravely disabled person is an important issue in terms of improved care policies for disabled person because it is an application that supports the care process with the highest financial aid. Quantitative methodology technique was used in the study and the sample was determined with snowball model. The data obtained from the questionnaires applied to 175 participants were uploaded to the SPSS 22.0 program. Statistical analyzes were performed with the program, frequency and chi-square tests were applied and the relationship between the questions were interpreted. The demographic structure of the relatives of the disabled and their caregivers was examined with the collected data. The main focus of the study was on the home care fee of the disabled and their relatives, the contribution of the home care fee to the quality of life of the disabled and their families and their psycho-social effects. According to the obtained results, it is seen that women take the burden of care. In this context, the measures to ensure the empowerment of women who undertake the burden of care, as well as the development of psychosocial support systems for persons with disabilities and their caregivers have been adopted. Finally, recommendations were made for the preparation of a new legislation on the subject by combining home care services provided by different institutions under a single roof.
