Predictive role of family communication patterns and personality traits on marital satisfaction of married individuals

The primary objective of this research is to explore the predictive role of family communication patterns and personality traits on the marital satisfaction of individuals. 498 married individuals (305, female, 193 male) participated in the study. Demographic Information Form, Adjective Based Personality Scale (ABPS), Marital Life Scale (MLS), and Family Communication Patterns Scale (FCPS), were used as data collection tools. The relational scanning method is used to study the relationship between study variables and demographic variables. The Pearson Correlational analyses was used to examine the relationship between study variables and demographic variables. Hierarchical Regression analysis, Independent T-Test analysis, and One-Way ANOVA analysis were carried out to answer the research questions. The result of this study is, that the predictive role of family communication patterns and personality traits on marital satisfaction is reached. The significant differences are found between the variables and living location, marriage duration, income level, child presence, number of children, type of marriage (flirting, arranged marriage, etc. of the participants. However, there is no significant difference between gender, age, and education level variables. There is a significant relationship between all sub-dimensions of family communication patterns and all sub-dimensions of personality traits with marital satisfaction. . This relationship is positive for Extraversion(.36), Openness to Experiences(.42) , Agreeableness(.42) , and Conscientiousness (.10) and negative for Neuroticism(-.20) . In addition, Conversation Orientation positively (0,0 8) and Conformity Orientation (0,16) negatively predict marital satisfaction.
