Investigation of the relationship between perceived spousal support, self-compassion and general self-efficacy of married individuals

In this research, the correlation between perceived spousal support, self-compassion and general self-efficacy levels of married individuals was investigated. In addition, perceived spousal support, self-compassion and general self-efficacy levels were examined in terms of gender and duration of marriage. The sample of this present study consisted of a total of 447 married individuals who are non-clinical, including 288 women and 133 men. In order to obtain the data in the research, Spousal Support Scale (Yıldırım, 2004), Self-Compassion Scale (Deniz, Kesici ve Sümer, 2008) General Self- Efficacy Scale (Aypay, 2010) was used and also Personal Information Questionary which is developed by the researcher to obtain information about socio-demographic characteristics, was used. The data of the research were analyzed using Pearson Correlation Analysis, Simple Linear Regression, Independent Sample t-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and the hypotheses of the research were tested. As a result of the research, a statistically significant correlation was found in a positive direction between perceived spousal support, self-compassion and general self-efficacy. According to another finding of the research, perceived spousal support predicts self-compassion and general self-efficacy at a statistically significant level. While the perceived level of spousal support was higher in women and the level of general self-efficacy was higher in men, it was found that self-compassion did not show a significant difference according to gender. While perceived spousal support differs according to the duration of marriage, while self-compassion and general self-efficacy do not. The findings were discussed in the context of the researches in the related field literature. Suggestions were made in the context of the research results.
