Examining married individuals' married satisfaction in terms of irrational beliefs, cognitive flexibility and forgiveness

There are many factors that affect the marital satisfaction of married individuals throughout their married lives, and this thesis addresses these factors and the predictive effect of married individuals' irrational beliefs, cognitive flexibility, and forgiveness levels on the level of marital satisfaction is a topic that the research seeks to answer. The study group of the research is married individuals in Antalya. Scales were applied to 320 married individuals who were randomly selected on a voluntary basis. It consists of a total of 312 participants, 223 of whom are women (71.5%) and 89 of whom are men (28.5%), who are married between the ages of 18-55 and above in Turkey. The research is a quantitative study that aims to examine the relationships between variables. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Irrational Beliefs Scale, which was developed by the researcher to determine the demographic characteristics of married individuals, the Cognitive Control and Flexibility Scale to determine their cognitive flexibility, the Heartland Forgiveness Scale to determine their forgiveness levels, and the Marital Life Scale to determine their marital satisfaction. Descriptive statistics methods, Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA), multiple and simple linear regression analysis were used to test the study data. Based on the results obtained from the study, it was determined that the marital satisfaction of married individuals was significantly predicted by the variables of irrational beliefs, cognitive flexibility, and forgiveness, respectively. It was determined that marital satisfaction was positively correlated with cognitive flexibility and forgiveness; and marital satisfaction was negatively correlated with irrational beliefs. As a result of the study, it was determined that there was a positive and statistically vii significant relationship between forgiveness and cognitive flexibility. A negatively significant relationship was found between irrational beliefs and forgiveness and cognitive flexibility. Finally, the research findings were discussed in light of the literature and suggestions for future research were expressed.
