The relationship between gender perception, protective and hostile sexism and violence against women behaviour in married women: The case of Erzincan

Gender perception includes the beliefs, attitudes and expectations that individuals develop about the roles of women and men. These perceptions significantly shape both the relationships of individuals in social life and the dynamics within the family. Especially in marital relationships, the stereotypical perception of the roles attributed to men and women can sometimes form the basis of inequality and conflict. In this context, this study aims to examine the gender perceptions of married individuals. In the study, the relationship between these perceptions and protective and hostile sexism attitudes and violence against women behaviors were examined in a quantitative research method. This study was conducted with 404 married women living in Erzincan province. Within the scope of the study, demographic information form, gender perception scale, conflicting emotional gender scale and spousal violence against women scale were used and the data used in the research were analyzed in SPSS package program. Within the scope of the study, the interests and attitudes of married women individuals on the subject were investigated and evaluated. The data and results obtained from this study are intended to shed light on the problem of gender inequality and violence against women. While this study aims to contribute to the existing knowledge on this subject, it is thought that it will contribute to helping society to be better informed about the prevention of such behaviors.
