Evrimsel iktisat perspektifinden kapitalizmin geleceği

The aim of this study is to examine the future of capitalism from the perspective of evolutionary economics, through a comparative analysis based on "The Engineers and the Price System" and "Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy" of Veblen and Schumpeter respectively, who are most important figures of the field of evolutionary economics. The speculation of both economists regarding the future of the capitalist system ground on technology. Industry and business dichotomy comes to the fore in Veblen regarding the future of capitalism. Veblen distinguishes the industry and business classess based on their instincts. For him, while the instinct of workmanship lies at the core of the industrial class, the predatory instinct lies at the core of the business class. Technology is continually shaping the industry class' habits of thought. In this context, for him, the overturn of capitalism depends on the industry class. In Schumpeter, however, what matters is the process of creative destruction. He built his theory on it. When the entrepreneurs' innovations are incorporated into the system, the circular flow is disturbed and a dynamic process starts. For Schumpeter, the capitalist system, which operates within the framework of innovation, will prepare its own end with its own successes, and hence it will be replaced by socialism. Ultimately, both reached the same conclusion in different ways. Besides, since the evolutionary method does not foresee a final term, it is irrational to claim that capitalism is the final one. Therefore, for both, capitalism is just a stage in evolutionary process.
