Özet (EN)

The world water reserves are consumed rapidly due to the increasing population, industrialization and agricultural activities in recent years. Especially, since approximately three-quarters of the water consumption in the world is formed as a result of agricultural irrigation activities, meeting water need of agricultural sector with sustainable and efficient treatment of wastewaters will create water recycle and reduce the use of clean water resources. Membrane bioreactor systems (MBR) are effective treatment systems in which both biological treatment and physical treatment take place together in wastewater treatment. However, high membrane costs and clogging problem restricting the sustainability of these systems have caused development of textile filter materials for MBR systems as a new research subject. Dynamic membrane bioreactor (DMBR) systems are modified MBR systems where various membrane support materials are used instead of polymeric membranes. Many researchers have reported that DMBR systems reduce the clogging problem encountered in MBR systems and thus operation with high flux is obtained. In this thesis, effective treatment of domestic/municipal wastewater by using different textile membrane support materials with DMBR systems was investigated. Synthetic wastewater and different municipal wastewaters were treated with the use of various membrane and textile membrane support materials. It was determined that DMBR systems equipped with textile membrane support materials achieved good removal efficiencies as high as MBR systems. In addition, it was stated whether the treated water was suitable for various parameters specified in the irrigation water criteria.
