In this thesis, experimental methods that can determine the velocity profile insidethe split air conditioner and measure the temperature distribution are investigated.Therefore the study separated into two main issue; flow field investigation andtemperature distribution investigation. In both issues the measurement methods areexamined and an optimum method chosen.In flow field investigation section Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Method cameforward as the most practical and effective method. Therefore PIV, stereo PIV,Panoramic PIV and endoscopic PIV methods applied to split air conditioner indoorunit for determining air flow characteristics for different areas of the system. Intemperature distribution investigation section existing method didn?t fulfill theexpectations of this study, therefore a novel method, ?Meshed InfraredThermography? is designed and introduced.After the determination of the methods, experimental set ups has been designedand prepared for the current Split Air Conditioner models. As the following step ofthe study various of experiments carried out and the experimental data comparedwith conventional methods.As a result of this study; temperature distribution outside and inside of the SACindoor unit body has been visualized, systems thermal design investigated. The flowstructure in side of the split air conditioner and the temperature distribution of the airat the exit of the SAC indoor unit has been determined.
