Abstract (EN)
Music, whose every stage from creation to reaching the audience is associated with emotions, has many elements, such as tempo, rhythm, harmony. In addition to this, the music which is often listened in today, also lyrics has very important place. However, it is observed that researches that investigate the relation of music to emotions frequently ignore lyrics. Few studies that they had addressedthe emotional impact of the lyrics presented conflicting findings. It is not exist a research that it investigate emotions which generated by a melody without lyrics and a melody with lyrics in the literature of Turkey. The present research is a descriptive study aimed at examining the emotions triggered bymelodies without lyrics and melodies with lyrics. In the research, the parts of the Turk folk songs named "Arpada Ektim" and "Ip Attım Ucu Kaldı", which have medium metronomes and sad lyrics, were used. 551 high school students studying in İnegöl, which is a district of Bursa, participated in the research. In this study, demographic information form and 14 point-emotion scale, as well as the Kutcher Adolescent Depression Scale whose validity and realiability in Turkey made in this study,as far as is known, were used. Results show that the melodies without lyrics emerged positive and negative emotions in together; while melodies with lyrics often led to negative emotions.In addition, it was also searched whether the emotions that emerged in with lyrics and without lyrics melodies differed among the participants according to gender, class level, preferred music type, emotional state and depression tendency.Obtained findings are discussed in terms of the purpose and the sub problems.
