Abstract (EN)

The research was conducted semi-experimentally in the pre-test-post-test design to determine the effect of the training about the drug administration through enteral route by crushing and changing the shape of drug on the knowledge and attitudes of pediatric nurses. The study was completed with the 70 nurses who were working in Gaziantep Cengiz Gökçek Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, pediatric neurology, palliative care and intensive care units and who were agreed to participate in the research. A questionnaire, developed by the researcher in accordance with the literature, was used to collect the data. The researcher provided one hour of training to participants. A post-test was administered to the trained nurses one month later. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to evaluate whether the data were suitable for normal distribution. Wilcoxon test was used to compare the properties, which were not normally distributed before and after the training. In addition, when comparing numerical data in more than two independent groups, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and LSD multiple comparison tests were used for properties showing normal distribution, as for properties not distributed normally Kruskal Wallis test and All Pairwise multiple comparison test were used. The SPSS 24.0 package program was used to evaluate the data statistically and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. It was found that 47.1% of nurses participating in the study were between the ages of 26-30, 65.7% were female, 85.7% were undergraduate and 61.4% have been working for 1-5 years. It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the pre-education mean scores (40.14 ± 9.40) and the post-training mean scores (86.31 ± 14.31) of nurses regarding the administration of drugs through the enteral route by crushing and changing the shape (p = 0.001). As a result, the knowledge level of the participants regarding practices of the drug administrations through enteral route by crushing and changing its shape increased. Thus, it is recommended to increase the in-service trainings of nurses, which are prepared in the institutions and in the light of current guides. Key words: Enteral route; Pediatric nurse; drug; training.
