This thesis examines the strategic and energy policies of the United States in the region of the South Caucasus from the end of the cold war to the present day. Right after the official dislocation of the Soviet Union in December 1991, the United States of America tried to extend their influence to the region of the South Caucasus. This new policy has pushed the United States into rivalry with most of the influential regional actors. The most interested actors to the energy resources of the region can be classified as follow: international actors and regional actors. Among the international actors we can mention the United States of America, the European Union and Russia. While among regional actors Turkey and Iran occupy the two first places. But there is a need to specify the fact that the only actor able to compete with the United States is Russia.After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Bush Administration has developed a new policy of the Transcaucasia which gave great importance to security and energy resources. It is possible to say that the United States policy aiming at ensuring its influence on the region of South Caucasus is not yet effective in spite of its close relations with the states forming the region. But it is clear the efforts of the United States to play a bigger role will lead in the future to a greater rivalry with Russia.
