Abstract (EN)

Fakir Baykurt was born in 1929 as the second child of a poorpeasant family in the village of Akçaköy in Burdur?s Yeşilova district.Baykurt became a teacher in the village schools of Dereköy and Kavacık inBurdur after training in Gönen Köy Enstitüsü (teacher training institute) in1948. He continued his career as a Turkish language teacher in Sivas,Hafik and Şavşat after graduating from the Gazi Institute of Education in1955. In 1959, due to publication of Yılanların Öcü (Revenge of theSerpents), he lived several years of his life in exile and banishment. Hehad a special training in Indiana University in 1962 for a year in NewCommunication Theories and Writing for Children and Adults prior tofounding Turkish Teachers? Union in 1965. In 1979, he went to Germanyin order to escape from the political climate of Turkey and to exploreTurkish workers in Germany and write about their lives. He died in 1999 inEssen, Germany where he had been living for a long time.He was the recipient of many literary awards and prizes. Amongmany others, He was given Yunus Nadi Novel Award for Yılanların Öcü in1958, TRT Arts Awards for Tırpan and Sınırdaki Ölü in 1970, TurkishLanguage Institute Arts Awards for Tırpan in 1971, Sait Faik Short StoryPrize for Can Parası in 1974, Orhan Kemal the Best Novel Prize for KaraAhmet Destanı in 1978, the Play of the Year for Sakarca in 1979, AvniDiligil Theater Award for Tırpan in 1980, Berlin Senate Children LiteratureAward for Barış Çöreği in 1984, German Industry Union Literature Awardfor Gece Vardiyası in 1985, Litterateur Society Honour Prize for all of hisworks in 1997, Sedat Simavi Foundation Literature Award for Yarım Ekmekin 1998 and Pir Sultan Abdal Society Literature Awards for all of his worksin 1999.This work, ?An Examination of the Life of Fakir Baykurt and HisNovels? focuses on Baykurt?s novels and consist of preface, contents,abbreviations, introduction and two main chapters. First chapter coversBaykurt?s biography and works as well as details of his writing career andhas the following sub-sections: His biography: His Life-His Life as aLitterateur-His Thought on Literature-His Works-Periodicals in which theauthor?s work got Published-Awards-Chronological Presentation of HisWorks aside from His Novels-Documentaries-Half-Done Works-GermanTranslations-His Perception of Language and Form-Some Details on HisCharacter.Second chapter analyzes his novels under main divisions. Maindivisions and subdivisions are evaluated through concentrating on fourteennovels. In the analysis of novels, main divisions are presentation, form,theme and expression and subdivisions are the organization of structureand phenomenon and space-time-characters. The analysis of novels isachieved through four main divisions: presentation of novels, theirstructure, theme and narration. The `structure of novels? division consists ofsetting, place, time and characters? subdivisions. After delving into themesof the novels, in narration part, we examined narrator and his point of viewalong with the language the author employed, narration techniques andstyles in his novels.
