Abstract (EN)
In our study, the effects of ultrasound guided peribulbar and subtenon blocks on perioperative patient satisfaction during phacoemulsification surgery were compared. A total of 60 patients were included in this prospective, observational study, and either peribulbar or subtenon blocks were applied. Peroperative patient satisfaction was measured with the QoR-15 questionnaire, which multidimensionally assesses recovery quality. The QoR-15 results, based on emotional state and anxiety scores, revealed a decrease in anxiety with both blocks, but the decrease in anxiety was more pronounced after peribulbar block. When pain scores were evaluated, both block techniques were effective in terms of analgesia, but the subtenon block provided a more comfortable pain profile postoperatively, while the peribulbar block caused more pain and discomfort. The subtenon group also performed better in terms of postoperative pain and akinesia scores. Minor complications were observed with the applied blocks, with a higher rate of chemosis and subconjunctival hemorrhage observed with the subtenon block. In conclusion, both block techniques were found to be safe and effective in phacoemulsification surgery. While the subtenon block appeared superior in terms of akinesia, the peribulbar block, due to its more invasive nature, increased preoperative anxiety. When compared in studies in the literature, ultrasound guidance increased the safety of both methods and contributed to low complication rates. Both block techniques were found to have similar effects on patient satisfaction and overall quality of recovery.
