Investigation of healing effects of afyon region thermal spring water on experimentally-induced gastritis in mice

Abstract (EN)
Gastritis is a general term used to describe inflammation of the gastric mucosa and secondary to acute or chronic vomiting syndrome. In this study; the efficacy of Afyonkarahisar Thermal Spring Waters in the treatment of gastritis in experimental gastritis cases was investigated. For this purpose, 40 Albino mice were treated with ethyl alcohol (EtOH) to form gastritis. In the treatment stage, control group mice (CG) were given tap water by means of per os, while study group mice (SG) were given fresh water of Süreyya I Spa Spring every day. Clinical, hematological, biochemical, blood gas measurements and histopathological examinations of the gastric tissue were performed on the 1st, 7th, 14th and 21th days after the initiation of the treatment. At the end of the study, no significant difference was found between the groups in terms of body temperature (p> 0.05), whereas heart and respiratory frequencies were significantly higher in the study group animals (p <0.05). WBC, NOTR, MON, EOS and MCV levels significantly increased after gastritis formation (p <0.05), whereas RBC, HG, HCT, LENF, PLT, MCH and MCHC levels decreased significantly (p <0.05). Although the WBC, NOTR, MON, EOS and MCV averages decreased significantly in both groups (p <0.05), it was found that the mean of these parameters were more significant in SG at all measurement times (p <0.05). ) and the lowest levels were obtained in the last week of the study period on the 21st day. Similarly, but in the opposite direction, these parameters were elevated in both CG and SG animals due to advancing time periods at the levels of RBC, HG, HCT, LENF, PLT, MCH and MCHC, and the difference was statistically significant (p <0.05). However, when the groups were compared, it was observed that these increases, which occurred in all time periods, were significantly (p <0.05) compared to KG, in SG animals had the highest levels obtained in the last measurements of the study. AST, ALT, CK, ALP, LDH, UREA, CREA and IgG levels of blood biochemical parameters were significantly increased (p <0.05) compared to the pre-study levels (p<0.05). It was determined that TP, ALB and GLU levels increased in SG contrast to KG, and statistically significant decreases in AST, ALT, CK, ALP, LDH, UREA, CREA and IgG levels after the treatment. pH, partial CO2 pressure (pCO2), base deficit (BE), bicarbonate (HCO3), Ca and K levels decreased after gastritis procedure, whereas lactate (LACT), sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl) levels increased. In the comparison between the groups in terms of these increase and decrease conditions, it was found that there was a tendency towards normalization in both groups, but when compared with KG in terms of recovery rate and amount, the highest statistically significant levels (p <0.05) were observed in SG animals. In the comparisons at the end of the 21st day, which is the last day of treatment; in KG animals treated with tap water, the healing was not fully formed, tissue integrity could not be achieved, the inflammation characterized by mononuclear cell infiltration continued, whereas in SG animals treated with spa water, tissue integrity was reshaped and became normal. As a result; when the clinical, hematological, blood biochemical parameters, blood gases and histopathological findings were evaluated as a whole, it was observed that the water of Süreyya I Thermal Spring was very successful in the treatment of gastritis.
