Abstract (EN)
The Effects of Thymus Sipyleus and Taurine on Kidney MDA, Glutathione, AOPP Levels and SOD Activity in Mice Ehrlich Ascites Solid Tumor ModelThe present study was aimed to investigate the effects of taurine and thyme on kidney malondialdehyde (MDA) superoxidedismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) and advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in tumor injected mice constituted with the purpose of protection and treatment.Study was conducted in Swiss albino male mice 2,5-3 months old. Animals were divided into 6 groups and each groupconsisted of 6 animals. Group-1 as healthy control group, group-2 as tumor control group, group-3 as thyme protective group, group-4 as thyme treatment group, group-5 as taurine protective group, group-6 as taurine treatment group. There were significant differences on kidney MDA levels between the control groups and the taurine protective as well as thethyme protective groups (p<0,05). However, there was not any significant difference between GSH levels among all the groups(p>0,05). While SOD activity was effective only in the taurinetreatment group (p<0,05), no influence was observed in the thymetreatment groups (p>0,05). While AOPP levels did not show any significant decrease among all the groups, but a significant decrease was observed only in the taurine protective group. In conclusion, a decrease in the antioxidant defenses was observed in kidney tissue of tumor-exposed animals, while thefree radicals were increased. The exogenously administered taurine inhibited free radical increase, therefore it reinforced antioxidant defenses. It was determined that exogenously administered taurine significantly decreased MDA levels and significantly increased SOD activity. It was observed that thyme treatment was effective only on MDA levels in the kidney tissue.
