Abstract (EN)

The aim of this doctoral thesis study is to investigate the possibilities of determining the effects of clone and planting spacing on wood properties with destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods in Poplar clone experiments established with different planting spacings in Izmit and Ipsala regions. Within the scope of the thesis study, 2 different hybrid poplar clones (I-214 and I-45/51) and 3 different Populus deltoides clones were established in Izmit and Ipsala/Edirne with planting spacings of 3x4 m, 3x3 m, 3x2 m and 3x1.5 m. ((I-77/51, S.307-26 and 89.M.060) afforestations were determined as trial areas. Of these clones, 89.M.060 poplar clone is of particular importance as it is a clone developed in Turkey. Sound transmission velocity and dynamic modulus of elasticity (MOE) measurements were made parallel to the fibers by using the stress wave method on all planted trees in the selected trial areas. Radial bending and pressure tests parallel to the fibers were performed with the Fractometer (FR), device on the increment items taken from the chest height. Again, annual ring widths were measured in increment items taken from each tree. From the trees whose measurements were completed in the Izmit region, for each clone and for each planting interval, 5 trees reflecting the average of the trial area were cut as trial trees. 2 meters of logs from the cut trees between 0.30-2.30 m trunk height were taken for destructive laboratory tests. Density, contraction (radial and tangential), bending strength (MOR), MOE in bending, compressive strength parallel to the fibers and dynamic bending values were measured in the samples prepared according to the relevant TSE standards. Descriptive statistics for all measured values and the effect of location, clone and planting spacing on wood properties were demonstrated by statistical tests. In addition, regression analysis was performed to reveal the relationships between NDT-FR, NDT-destructive and FR-destructive tests. In general, the wood quality of the planting range was determined by the P. deltoides clones giving higher values than the hybrid poplar clones in the NDT, NDT and incremental tests. It was concluded that the effect on the plant was statistically significant, but there was no increasing or decreasing relationship as the planting spacing increased, and the values obtained in the NDT and FR measurements in the Ipsala region were higher than the Izmit region. There is a linear and increasing strong relationship between NDT -destructive and FR measurement results (except for dynamic bending), the relationship between NDT measurement results and FR-MOR is weak, whereas the relationship between FR pressure resistance is linear and increasing as it increases. A strong relationship was found.
