The effect of different detox beverages on color and roughness change of restorative materials

Abstract (EN)
Aesthetic restorative materials should mimic the natural tooth appearance. Composite resins are at the forefront of these materials. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of fruit and vegetable-containing detoxification beverages, on the color stability and roughness of restorative materials. A total of 360 disc-shaped specimens (2 mm thickness and 8 mm in diameter) were prepared using five restorative materials (Ceram.X SphereTec One, Clearfil Majesty Es-2, Omnichroma, Estelite Quick, Beautifil II). The prepared samples were polymerized with Bluephase 20i (BP) LED light curing device for 15 seconds. The samples were divided into two groups and the first group was finished under mylar strip. The other group was subjected to finishing and polishing procedure with the Super Snap Finishing and Polishing kit (Shofu, Japan). All of the samples were kept in distilled water in an incubator at 37 ⁰C for 24 hours for post-polymerization. The initial color values of the samples were measured by using a spectrophotometer, Vita Easy Shade Compact and the surface roughness values were measured using a profilometer. The samples were randomly divided into 6 immersion solution subgroups; distilled water, home-made red detox drink, commercially available red detox drink, home-made green detox drink, commercially available green detox drink and lemon-vinegar water (n=6). Color and roughness measurements were repeated after 1, 7, 15, and 30 days. Color change (∆E) and roughness change (∆Ra) in the samples were calculated. Data were statistically analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey post-hoc test and the relationship between color and roughness changes were evaluated with Pearson correlation test. According to the results of the statistical analysis, all of the test solutions changed the color and roughness values of the restorative materials. Among all restorative materials without finishing and polishing, The highest color change was observed in Beautifil II giomer samples which were immersed in home-made green detox drink on the 30th day (∆E4=20,16). Among all the restorative materials which were subjected to finishing and polishing process the highest increase in the roughness was observed in Beautifil II giomer samples (∆Ra3=0.32) which were immersed in home-made red detox drink on the 15th day. It should be kept in mind that detox beverages may cause some change in the color and roughness properties of restorative materials.
