Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effects of exercises with different intensities, which were implemented to rats with coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) supplementation, on tumstatin expression levels and lipid profile levels. Material and Method: In this experimental study, 42 8 weeks old adult male Wistar albino rats were used. Rats were randomly divided into 6 groups as control, CoQ10 supplementation, aerobic and anaerobic exercise, aerobic CoQ10, anaerobic CoQ10 supplementation+exercise. All rats (except for the control and CoQ10 groups) spent the first week in preparation for the treadmill and exercise protocol. CoQ10 supplementation was administered by the gavage method. Serum samples, skeletal, and cardiac muscle tissues of the rats were stored at -80 ˚C and tumstatin levels were measured by ELISA method. For the histological studies, skeletal and cardiac muscle tissues from rats were analyzed in a formaldehyde solution and embedded in paraffin blocks after passing through follow-up series. From the paraffin blocks, sections with 5-6 µm thicknesses were extracted via microtomes and the sections were dyed according to the immunohistochemistry method. The dyed slides were examined and photographed under a research microscope. Results: At the end of the study, body weights, serum HDL, VLDL, triglyceride and cholesterol levels of the rats were significantly different between the groups. Additionally, significant differences were observed between the groups in tumstatin levels in terms of the heart and skeletal muscle homogenates. These differences were supported by the slides dyed according to the immunohistochemistry method. Conclusion: In our study, it was observed that exercise intensity and CoQ10 supplementation significantly affected the lipid profile, improving HDL, VLDL, triglyceride, and cholesterol levels. Furthermore, exercise intensity and CoQ10 supplementation affected the level of tumstatin expression. It was observed that the angiogenesis was remodeled in the heart and skeletal muscles thanks to these effect.
