Investigation of the effect of different irrigation solutions on bioceramic-based sealer calcium ion release and push-out bond strength

Abstract (EN)

Objective: Bioceramic based root canal sealer, which are widely used today, release high amounts of calcium ions. In the literature, there are very limited studies investigating the factors affecting the ion release properties of these materials. Bonding between root canal filling material and dentine is a desired feature in a successful endodontic treatment. In this study, the effects of the irrigation solutions commonly used in endodontics on the calcium ion release and bond strength of BioRoot RCS, a bioceramic based sealer, were investigated. Materials and Methods: 80 single root mandibular premolar teeth were divided into 2 main groups for atomic absorption spectrophotometric analysis and pushout test. The teeth were divided into 4 groups with 10 teeth in each group according to the final irrigation solution (5.25% NaOCl, %17 EDTA, %2 CHX, 0.9% NaCl (control group)). After the final irrigation, artificial resorptive defects was simulated on the buccal face of 40 teeth, whose calcium ion concentration will be measured by spectrophotometric analysis. Root canal treatments of the teeth were completed using BioRoot RCS and gutta percha. The samples were placed in falcon tubes with 5 ml of distilled water. Measurement was made on the 1st, 7th, 14th and 28th days. 40 teeth belonging to Group 2 were embedded in acryl at the end of the 3rd week when the hardening was completed and two sections were taken from the middle trio of each tooth. Then, push-out test was applied to the samples on the Instron device. Results and Results: There is no statistically significant difference in evaluating the effect of 17% EDTA, 5.25% NaOCl and 2% CHX irrigation solutions on the calcium ion release of BioRoot RCS on the 1st and 7th days (p> 0.05). On the 14th and 28th days, the 2% CHX group showed a statistically lower calcium ion release than the 17% EDTA group (p <0.05). For BioRoot RCS root canal sealer, the highest bond strength values were obtained in the group using 17% EDTA solution (p <0.05).
