Investigation of the potential use of different compost materials in ornamental cabbage cultivation

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different organic composts on plant development and nutrient concentration in leaves in ornamental cabbage cultivation in greenhouse environment. In the study, vermicompost, thyme compost, mushroom compost and domestic compost were mixed into the peat perlite medium mixture at the rates of 0, 5, 10 and 20%. The study was carried out in 80 crates of pots in a greenhouse environment according to the randomized plot design as 5 organic fertilizer x 4 organic fertilizer dose x 4 repetitions. In the study, Hoagland nutrient solution was given together with irrigation for the nutrition of the plants. When ornamental cabbage reached its ideal size, it was harvested and the fresh and dry weights of the plant and the nutrient concentrations in the plant leaves were examined. The highest plant diameter was found to be 23.4 cm when mushroom compost was mixed with 10% and 22.1 cm when vermicompost was mixed with 20%. The effect of the applications on the above-ground fresh weights of ornamental cabbage was statistically significant at 1%. The highest fresh weight was found as 207.72 gr/plant in the 10% mushroom compost application. While the application of organic fertilizers increased the fresh and dry weights compared to the control application, the highest increase was detected in the 10% organic fertilizer application. While different values ​​were revealed in the nutrient element concentrations in the study, it was revealed that the organic materials added to the peat perlite mortar had positive effects on the plant development of ornamental cabbage.
