The Study of the entrepreneur inteation in different coltures: An application to university student

ABSTRACT This study measures the entrepreneur intention in different cultures and examines the relationship of socio-cultural variables to the entrepreneurial intention. In the first section of the study which consists of three sections, the different definitions of entrepreneurship from literature were outlined and entrepreneur traits were mentioned. The influence of personality traits on the entrepreneurial intention was accepted by describing the types of traits of an entrepreneur. The relationship of socio-cultural variables to the intention of business venture was examined as in the study of De Pillis (1998) "Predicting Entrepreneurial Intention". The entrepreneurial intentions between Turkish and American students were investigated. It is very well known fact that social messages have persuasive impacts on people. The ACE model (Appropriateness, Consistency, Effectiveness), which is driven from persuasion theory in literature, was used in this study. In the second section, the historical development of entrepreneurship in Turkey and United States was reviewed. It was focused on whether the individuals have the values of entrepreneurial intention or not by examining whether cultural values raise individuals with entrepreneurial traits or not. In the third and the last section, as the cultural traits might have some kind of influence on the personality traits, hypothesis were developed to examine in which way the culture influences the characteristics of entrepreneurial traits by the help of the models developed by De Pillis (1998). The survey developed for this study was distributed to 100 American and 100 Turkish respondents and the datum were evaluated and the results are examined. VI
