- 83 -SUMMARYTHE INVESTIGATION OF CHANGES IN SOME PHYSICAL ANDMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF DIFFERENT METAL OXIDES ADDED INPOLY(METHYLMETHACRYLATE)In this study, the changes in some physical and mechanicalcharacteristics of two types of acrylic resins which were reinforced with metal primertreated metal oxides were evaluated.In the present study, the heat polymerized, and chemicallypolymerized acrylic resin, and %2 zirconium dioxide, %2 aluminium oxide, %2titanium dioxide and %1 titanium dioxide + %1zirconium dioxide mixture were used.In assessing the changes with respect to physical characteristics; the water sorptionand solubility tests, for the evaluation of the mechanical characteristics; the impactstrength and the fracture toughness tests were processed. Results were evaluated bystatistical analyses.In heat polymerized acrylic resin reinforced with metal oxides, watersorption and solubility values were decreased, and the impact strength and thefracture toughness values were increased. In chemically polimerized acrylic resinreinforced with metal oxides, water sorption, solubility, and fracture toughness wereincreased and the impact strength values were decreased.It is observed that the process of reinforcing with metal oxideparticules, improved some physical and mechanical properties of poly(methylmethacrylate).Key words: poly(methyl methacrylate), metal oxide, water sorption,solubility, impact strenght, fracture toughness
