Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effect of cutting edge micro geometry on cutting forces and cuttingtemperatures has been investigated during orthogonal turning of CuZn37 brass as thetest material. These types of micro gemetry were used namely, chamfered, round andsharp edges with various sizes between 30 and 150 microns.The micro geometry can considerably affect the tools performance and some otherproperties such as cutting force, temperature, tool wear and surface finish. Theresults showed that cutting forces and temperatures produced by round andchamfered micro geometry increased with increasing edge dimensions. A FEMmodel has been developed for predicting cutting forces and the results werecompared with that of the test results.
