Investigation of functional outcomes of patients who underwent different types of total knee arthroplasty

Objective: To Investigate the functional outcomes of patients who underwent different types of total knee artrhoplasty (TKA) because of knee osteoarthritis Method: In our research we assessed 141 patients with 257 knees who had mean age 66.7±8.8. All the participants have been assessed with knee-joint assessment form and Oxford knee score (OKS). Additionally, functıonal outcomes were assessed with performance based 5 repeated sit to stand test, 10 m walking test, squatting test, kneeling test and climbing up and down stairs parameter of Knee Society score. Our research had been done as double-blinded study and at the end of the study patıents were divided into groups of Posterior Cruciate Ligament retaining or sacrificing, patellar resurfacing or nonresurfacing and thickness of insert ?11 mm or thickness of insert ? 12 mm. Result: There were no statistically differences between the performances of 90° squatting, 120° squatting, kneeling ability, climbing up and down stairs, walking test and sit to stand test in patients with TKA were evaluated according to status of Posterior Cruciate Ligament, patellar resurfacing and thickness of tibial insert (p>0.05). There were statistically differences between the groups of both patellar resurfacing-nonresurfacing and thickness of insert ?11 mm- thickness of insert ?12 mm for pain during 90° squatting (p<0.05). There were statistically differences between the groups of both Posterıor cruciate ligament retaining-sacrificing and thickness of insert ?11 mm- thickness of insert ?12 mm for pain during kneeling (p<0.05). While the patients? OKS score were assessing in terms of posterior cruciate ligament status and patellar resurfacing no difference between the groups (p>0.05), ıt has been found sıgnificantly difference between the groups of thickness of insert ?11 mm thickness of insert ?12 mm (p<0.05). Conclusion: Different types of prosthesis on functional outcomes observed that there is no sıgnificantly contribution. It may be considered that different types of prosthesis are associated with pain during this performances more than patients? performances.
