Production of barium metaborate by application of different methods and study of the factors influencing the production process

Barium metaborate (BaO.B2O3 / BaB2O4) is a very frequently used ingredient that using for dyes, plactics, textile, rubber, glue industry and protection of wood meterials, but not producing in our country yet. ß-barium metaborate cyristal is a non-linear optical cyristal which has perfect properties.In this thesis, practicing for improving the technic that producing barium metaborate, with fast and efficient process. For this aim, using ultrasonic waves which are one of the new-generation production system for producing barium metaborate for the first time. Borax decahyrate, boric acid and sodium metaborate tetrahyrate are chosen as boron source. The effect of reaction temperature, reaction time, cyristalization time, molar ratio of reactants and pH values for the reaction yield and cyristal formation, are examined. The reaction parameters are determined and the powder of nano-sized ß-barium metaborate is produced which can use as starting material in single cyristal growth process. Continuous production system is improved in laboratory scale which can be adapted to industrial application.As alternative, microwave synthesis are examined comprehensively for the first time for producing barium metaborate in this thesis. The variation of production efficiency is enlightened by making experiments which are studied with different boron sources according to level of microwave power and time. Also production parameters are determined with examination of solid phase synthesis method by using boric acid and barium carbonate
