The effects of formworks coated by different surface lining and having drainage properties on the some physical characteristics of concrete

THE EFFECTS OF FORMWORKS COATED BY DIFFERENT SURFACELINING AND HAVING DRAINAGE PROPERTIES ON THE SOMEPHYSCAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CONCRETE(PhD Thesis)Serkan SUBAŞIGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOctober 2005ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of formworks;covered by different surface lining and having drainage properties; onthe some physical characteristics of concrete.During the investigation period; to determine the effects of formworkson the physical properties of concrete; tree curtain wall formworks;having 2 m height, 1 m width and 15 cm thickness; were prepared.Drainage channels and holes were formed on the surfaces of the twocurtain wall formworks. One of them was coated with SB-20 typegeotextile and the other one coated with Zemdrain formwork lining. Thethird formwork was used as reference without any surface coating anddrainage holes and chanels. C20 concrete was placed to the preparedformworks and compacted with vibration.On the concrete blocks extracted from the formworks; surfacehardness with Schmidt hammer, concrete density with radioactivemethod, pull out strength, pull off strength and surface blow holes ratiotest were carried out. On the core samples taken from the concreteblocks compressive strength, static elasticity module, Poisson ratio,tensile splitting strength, concrete density, apparent void ratio, pulsevelocity, carbonation depth, capillary water absorption and abrasionresistance tests were also performed.Consequently; according to all measured properties on the concreteblocks and core samples taken from these blocks; formworks coatedby Zemdrain and SB-20 lining gave better results with respect toplywood formwork without lining.
