Identity representations in Fatih Akın's films

This study focuses on the identity representations of Turkish migrant characters belong to the second generation in films written and directed by Fatih Akin, whose name is prominent in Turkish- German cinema. In this study, it is aimed to expose how the concept of cultural ?hybridization?, empowered by global cultural flows involved transnational movement of mass migration, is reflected to the identities of Turkish migrant characters represent the second generation in Akın's films, within the frame of ?deterritorialization? and ?reterritorialization? concepts. Such a kind of approach to ?hybridization? considering its connection with other two concepts is also important with regards to bringing a more balanced perspective, instead of quite an affirmative view, while reading the reflections of hybridization and the experiences immanent to this concept on the identity representations.Accordingly, within the scope of this study, three of Fatih Akin?s films, Short Sharp Shock (Kurz und Schmezlos, 1998), Head On (Gegen die Wand, 2004) and The Edge of Heaven (Auf der anderen Seite, 2007), regarded as cultural texts are analysed with the method of textual analyses to trace the reflections of the main three concepts mentioned and the experiences immanent to them on the characters? identity construction processes and the results obtained are discussed in the conclusion.Key Words1.
