The usage of geographical information system in teaching geography within the Fatih Project

Nowadays, the importance of information technology has been improving day by day in the field of education. In accordance with these developments in the world, FATİH Project was conducted in our country. GIS which is used by America, Canada, Finland, England which are developed countries in the field of geography teaching, has an available feature in the scope of FATİH Project. In accordance with the purpose of FATİH Project, it was searched that the effect of using GIS on geographical achivements and success of students in that study. In the study which was carried out in Ankara Demetevler Kız Anadolu İmam Hatip high school 9/A as a practise, 9/B as a control class were determined. During the one education period, GIS was used in 9/A. As a result, if the exams were evaluated, it was determined that practice of GIS increases the geographical gain, the ability of using map, and the success in geography lesson of students from obtained data.
